Russian forces struck a residential area in Kharkiv around 4 PM local time, according to the city’s mayor, Ihor Terekhov. The latest reports indicate that one man, who was outside at the time of the shelling, was killed, while 19 others, including four children, were injured.
“Five-story buildings where people lived were severely damaged, and the Institute of Emergency Surgery was also affected,” Terekhov wrote on Telegram.
At least 14 buildings were damaged, with two of them partially destroyed.
Local police reported that Kharkiv was hit by aerial bombs, marking the first such incident since 2022.
“According to information being verified, the enemy used a cheap analog of a cruise missile, the UMPB D-30 SN, which is based on the FAB-250 bomb,” Serhiy Bolvinov, head of the Investigative Department of the Kharkiv Region Police, wrote on Facebook.

Oleh Syniehubov, head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, confirmed that these strikes were the first time in two years that the Russians had used aviation to attack residential areas in Kharkiv.

“Kharkiv was hit by two strikes with what is essentially a new type of munition. We have not previously recorded such incidents in Kharkiv. Similarly, we detected aircraft in the air, but not within the Kharkiv region. The approximate distance from which such a projectile could have been launched is roughly 90 kilometers,” said Syniehubov.
All emergency services are currently on the scene, and rescue operations are underway.
Last week, the most severe Russian bombardment since the start of the full-scale invasion left Kharkiv completely without power for days, with electricity yet to be fully restored citywide.
