Russia lost half of its combat capability in Ukraine – UK’s Defence Staff Chief

The head of Britain’s armed forces, Admiral Sir Tony Radakin, says that Russia has already lost about half of its army’s combat potential in the war against Ukraine, the Financial Times reported.

According to Tony Radakin, Russia has lost 2,500 tanks in Ukraine and spent about 10 million shells. At the same time, the admiral notes that the Russian military industry can produce approximately one million shells and 200 tanks per year.

UK’s armed forces chief believes the main Ukrainian counteroffensive is still ahead. At the same time, he notes that it is unfair to limit Ukraine to a specific timeframe for the offensive and adds that “Russia is so weak now” that it does not have the strength to launch its own offensive.

Radakin says that the Ukrainian counteroffensive is moving slowly but adds that, in his opinion, the task of the Ukrainian Armed Forces is to exhaust the enemy and stretch the front line.

“The issue is to make the more than thousand-kilometer front line a bigger problem for Russia than for Ukraine,” Radakin said, explaining the Ukrainian strategy of multiple-point attacks.

The main problems of the Ukrainian army now are the high concentration of minefields laid by Russian forces, the lack of air support, and the fact that Ukraine has not received all the weapons it requested from its Western partners, according to the British Army Forces Chief.
