The Russian military lost a new Plastun-SN tracked all-terrain vehicle on the territory of Ukraine, in Zaporizhzhia Oblast. The photos of the destroyed vehicle were posted by the Russian 76th Guards Air Assault Division on Telegram on 22 November, but were later deleted, according to Militarnyi.

In October 2023, the Russian military took delivery of the initial shipment of the Plastun-SN special-purpose tracked all-terrain vehicle, designed for evacuation purposes. This brand-new vehicle, introduced and tested at Russia’s NAMI test center this year, boasts lightweight armor offering protection against Br3 (9 mm pistol bullet) and Br4 (5.45 mm and 7.62 mm) ammunition.

The vehicle does not have a hard roof, which allows for quick entry/exit or evacuation of the wounded. According to its designers, the weight of the Plastun-SN all-terrain vehicle is 3.8 tons, and the width of the all-season track is 50 cm. The all-terrain vehicle can reach speeds of up to 50 km/h.

These all-terrain vehicles are supposed to be used as evacuation vehicles, but they can also be used for reconnaissance or as a platform for an 82-mm mortar. At Russia’s Army-2023 forum, the all-terrain vehicle was demonstrated to the military as a mobile 82-mm mortar, as well as a reconnaissance configuration with a telescopic mast equipped with surveillance devices.
