Russia may still extend the Black Sea grain deal after Turkish-Russian talks, President of Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, said, according to Anadolu, a Turkish state-run news agency.
The President of Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, told reporters on 20 July that Türkiye continues negotiations with Russia considering the suspension of the grain deal. The talks are conducted at the level of foreign ministries, Erdoğan said.
The President of Türkiye plans to discuss the extension of the grain deal with Russia’s President Vladimir Putin, both over the phone and during Putin’s visit to Türkiye in August 2023.
“The end of the Black Sea grain initiative will have harmful effects that will trigger the rise of global food prices, possibly famine in some regions, and new waves of migration,” Erdoğan said. “We need to prevent this. I believe that discussing the issue in detail with Putin will help to extend the grain initiative,” Erdoğan added.
Erdoğan assured that Türkiye will do its best to revive the Black Sea grain corridor. Türkiye insists that Russia extend the grain deal as soon as possible, according to the President of Türkiye.
