“The Portuguese Republic remains unwavering in its commitment to Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders… The Portuguese Republic expresses its support to Ukrainian Peace Formula, aimed at establishing a comprehensive, just and sustainable peace in Ukraine for global security.

The Portuguese Republic will continue to support Ukraine on its path towards future membership and supports Ukraine to become NATO Member when conditions allow for it. Ukraine and the Portuguese Republic look forward to addressing all these issues at the upcoming NATO Summit in Vilnius in July 2023,” the declaration reads.

The declaration also mentions several other essential steps that Portugal takes in order to support Ukraine “for as long as it takes,” including providing financial, material, and military aid, facilitating the work of the International Criminal Court to bring all perpetrators of war crimes to justice. The declaration also emphasized that Portugal participates in the international register of damage, created at the Reykjavik Summit of the Council of Europe on 16–17 May 2023, to confiscate Russian assets in the west and transfer them to Ukraine.

Portugal became the twenty-third country to sign such a declaration with Ukraine, after Bulgaria, which Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited earlier this week.
