Russian publications Izvestia and Fontanka report that Admiral Nikolai Yevmenov, the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, has been dismissed from his position. According to their sources, the naval command is already aware of this development.

“Admiral Nikolai Yevmenov, the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, has been dismissed, and Admiral Alexander Moiseev will replace him,” Izvestia reports.

Yevmenov had been in command of the Russian Navy since May 3, 2019. Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, he was included in the sanctions list of the EU and other Western countries.

There has been no official confirmation of the dismissal yet.

The dismissal may be connected to the heavy losses suffered by the Russian Black Sea Fleet in the war against Ukraine, a country with virtually no navy. Russia has already lost more than a dozen ships in the conflict.
