ISW: Ukrainian forces made gains near Svatove in Luhansk Oblast, while Russian forces advanced in Donetsk

The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reported on 23 September that Ukrainian forces reclaimed limited positions northwest of Svatove in Luhansk Oblast, even as Russian forces continued their offensive operations along the Kupiansk-Svatove-Kreminna line.

According to the ISW, geolocated footage published on 21 September indicates that Ukrainian forces recently regained limited positions along windbreaks west of Kyslivka (northwest of Svatove).

Simultaneously, Russian forces have made advancements in several areas of Donetsk Oblast. Geolocated footage published on 21 September indicates that Russian forces advanced further along Hobrusyeva and Niu-Yorkska streets within central Niu York (south of Toretsk) during recent Russian advances into central Leonidivka (southwest of Toretsk).

Russian military bloggers have claimed progress in various locations. One reported that “Russian forces advanced along a front 2.5 kilometers wide and two kilometers deep east of Kruhlyakivka (northwest of Svatove).” Another claimed that Russian forces “seized most of Makiivka and have entered Nevske” northwest of Kreminna.

The Ukrainian General Staff reported intense fighting in the Pokrovsk direction, stating that “Russian forces carried out 27 assault and offensive actions, particularly in the areas of Marynivka and Novotoretske.” The General Staff also noted 11 battles in the Kurakhove direction, with Russian forces attempting to advance near Hirnyk, Tsukuryne, Zhelanne Druhe, Katerynivka, and Kostiantynivka.

DeepState analysts report that Russian forces have advanced near seven settlements in Donetsk Oblast, including New York, Toretsk, Vuhledar, Prechistivka, Vodiane, Tsukuryne, and Hirnyk.

The situation remains fluid, with both sides engaging in offensive operations across multiple fronts.
