The Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has pledged to support providing 4x4s and other vehicles to Ukraine that would otherwise be scrapped under the Ulez scheme, the Independent has reported.
Earlier, the mayor of Kyiv, Vitaliy Klitschko, suggested the donation of these vehicles for use on the front lines, emphasizing their potential in life-saving and transport roles.

However, London’s mayor rejected the request, according to a letter obtained by The Telegraph, which stated that the move does not meet the “legal threshold” needed for the Ulez scrappage scheme to benefit Londoners economically, socially, and environmentally.
Under the Ulez scheme, London motorists can claim a £2,000 one-off payment if they scrap non-compliant vehicles, or face a daily charge of £12.50 for keeping them.
In an apparent U-turn, Sadiq Khan has asked the Transport Secretary, Mark Harper, to enable Londoners, and others across the country, to donate vehicles to Ukraine through scrappage schemes.
London’s mayor and the former defense secretary, Ben Wallace, who sent a letter to Khan urging sending cars to Kyiv, said they had reached their conclusion following “conversations with the Mayor’s Office in Kyiv and other partners.”
