Iceland has joined two coalitions to support Ukraine — the IT Coalition and the Demining Coalition, Ukraine’s Defense Ministry announced on 24 December.

Additionally, Iceland announced an extra allocation of 340,000 euros through NATO’s Comprehensive Assistance Package for purchasing medical supplies for Ukraine.

Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Iceland has provided humanitarian, economic, and security support, mostly through international organizations like the UN, the World Bank, NATO, and other multinational forums.

Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov expressed his gratitude, stating, “We are thankful to the government and people of Iceland for their robust support. With the help of our partners, we will be able to strengthen areas of information technology, communications, and cybersecurity, as well as have the necessary training and equipment for demining.”

“We hope our support will lead to the strengthening of Ukraine’s defense capabilities. By joining coalitions and providing additional funding under NATO’s Comprehensive Assistance Package, we continue our non-lethal support to Ukraine in its fight against Russia’s unfair and illegal invasion,” Iceland’s Foreign Minister Bjarni Benediktsson said.

Currently, the IT Coalition comprises eight countries: Estonia, Luxembourg, Belgium, Denmark, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, and Japan. The United Kingdom and Italy have also announced their intention to join.
