Germany will provide a further €300 million ($316 million) to help Ukraine’s energy grid repair and modernization, German Ambassador to Ukraine Martin Jaeger announced on 27 November.

In an X post, Jaeger said Ukraine’s national energy company Ukrenergo “is among the main beneficiaries” and will receive €200 million of the total German contribution to an Energy Support Fund for Ukraine.

The envoy also said he held a “hot take” with Ukraine’s Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko. “Germany is already putting over 625 mn. EUR on the line for the support of Ukraine’s energy system. More is in the pipeline.” Jaeger said.

He added that alongside “much needed help for repairs,” Berlin aimed to increase backing for decentralized power sources in Ukraine.

The new German aid comes after the United States last week pledged $500 million to help Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, which has been battered by weeks of massive Russian missile and drone strikes.

Earlier, the head of Ukraine’s national power grid operator said that Russia had struck about 70 major energy facilities across Ukraine during attacks last fall and winter.
