The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine released details and a map showing the flight path of a drone that crossed into Ukrainian airspace from Hungary on the morning of 26 September.
Ukrainian radar systems detected the drone twice at different altitudes over Transcarpathian region, with the aircraft violating Ukraine’s state border twice from the Hungarian side, according to the General Staff statement.
“Radar systems of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Ukrainian airspace over the territory of Transcarpathian region twice recorded the flight at different altitudes of an aerial object of the drone type,” the General Staff reported. “The specified object twice violated the state border of Ukraine from the side of Hungary.”
The military command deployed defensive measures in response to the incursion. “In order to neutralize the potential threat, the Defense Forces of Ukraine carried out patrolling of the airspace over the Uzhgorod district with a UAV crew of the ‘Chaklun-KM’ type,” the General Staff reported.
This marks the first reported incident of Hungarian reconnaissance drones entering Ukrainian airspace, with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirming the breach on social media. Initial assessments suggest the drones may have been conducting reconnaissance on Ukraine’s border industrial facilities.
The incident occurred amid ongoing tensions between Ukraine and Hungary, with Hungary previously claiming to have shot down Ukrainian drones near its border in May 2025.
