Famous Ukrainian filmmaker Ruslan Volodin dies at frontline

From working behind the scenes on hit movies like “Cyborgs” and “The Sniffer,” Ruslan Volodin switched to the frontlines once Russia’s full-scale invasion began, defending Ukraine in the 205th Battalion.

Ruslan Volodin, a film industry worker and Ukrainian soldier, was killed on the front lines, Ukraine’s State Film Agency reported on 11 December.

Volodin had worked in the film industry at companies like 1st Dolly and Patriot Rental before joining Ukraine’s Armed Forces. He contributed to the creation of famous Ukrainian films such as “Zakhar Berkut,” “Cyborgs,” “Outpost,” “Unbroken,” and “The Sniffer.”

In the first days of the full-scale invasion, he mobilized with the Armed Forces of Ukraine. During his service, he rose to the rank of lieutenant and was a company commander of fire support for the 205th Battalion.

Volodin’s colleague, detective series director Artem Litvinenko, reacted to his death, saying, “I cannot comprehend this loss. As I was looking through the photos – you were present in nearly all of them. Even during the most difficult shifts, with excessive overtime and lack of sleep, you were always smiling, constantly in good spirits. You were the consummate professional, utterly reliable, and truly ‘one of us’.”

“You voluntarily enlisted in those very first days of the invasion. It was the only choice for someone like you. That act encapsulated your character. This terrible war, this damned Russian aggression, is robbing us of our finest men,” Litvinenko added.
