The Prime Minister of Estonia, Kaja Kallas, refused to guarantee that Estonian Defense Forces will not be deployed to Ukraine. She made this statement in the Estonian parliament while responding to questions from members of parliament.

Specifically, representatives of the Estonian Conservative People’s Party (EKRE) demanded guarantees that the Estonian Defense Forces would not intervene in the military conflict and asked whether Kallas planned to evacuate from Estonia in case of a war with Russia.

“I don’t make such promises because circumstances can change. According to your interpretation, it seems that intervention can mean anything. Our military assistance to Ukraine can also be seen by Russia as intervention because we really want Ukraine to win, we really want Russia to lose and return to its borders. Russia is a direct threat to us,” Kallas stated

Regarding evacuation, the prime minister admitted that she has no such plans, but it is too early to talk about that. According to Kallas, all the measures Estonia is taking concerning aid to Ukraine and enhancing its own defense capabilities are precisely aimed at ensuring that no one has to answer the question of evacuation.

Just a week ago, Kaja Kallas assured the Estonian parliament that Estonian soldiers would not be sent to fight in Ukraine.
