Drones strike Russian Caspian fleet base Dagestan for the first time

Multiple explosions occurred in the city of Kaspiysk in Russia’s Dagestan on the morning of 6 November, as drones reportedly targeted the main base of Russia’s Caspian Flotilla.

Dagestani leader Sergei Melikov confirmed the drone attack, saying that air defense forces “shot down one drone over Kaspiysk,” though he provided no details about potential damage.

The Caspian Flotilla is a Russian naval unit operating in the Caspian Sea. The flotilla has been launching Kalibr cruise missiles from its warship, while its 177th Marine Regiment has participated in combat operations in Kherson and Zaporizhzhia Oblast. The flotilla is based in Kaspiysk, Dagestan, and operates various vessels, including missile ships and patrol boats.

According to Russian media, the incident caused disruptions at Makhachkala airport, with three flights delayed.

The Telegram channel Baza claims the attack was carried out by an ultra-light Ukrainian A-22 Flying Fox drone aircraft.

Astra notes that NASA fire monitoring systems detected no fires in the base area following the attack. The naval base houses coastal troops, including marine units.
