Ukraine’s state-owned defense conglomerate Ukroboronprom has revealed the specifications and first official photo of the new long-range Neptune-D cruise missile. Ukrainian defense news site Militarnyi reported the system was presented at a defense exhibition on 1 October 2025.
Warhead and extended range
According to Militarnyi, Ukroboronprom disclosed that the new missile carries a 260 kg warhead, which is 110 kg heavier than the anti-ship version. This upgrade gives the missile greater destructive power against land targets. The range has also grown dramatically. The Neptune-D can reportedly reach up to 1000 km, compared to only 280 km for the original anti-ship Neptune.
Militarnyi notes that the long Neptune missile is visibly bigger than its predecessor. Without a booster, it measures six meters in length and has a body diameter of 50 cm. The redesigned nose section reflects changes in the warhead and guidance systems.
Ukroboronprom stated the missile can navigate difficult terrain and complete its route without satellite support. It is also able to hit ground targets, though details of this targeting solution were not disclosed.
Larger fins visually different from original Neptunes
Photographs of the Neptune-D show larger control fins. Designers reportedly increased their size to improve maneuverability, given the missile’s added weight. The visible modifications distinguish it from the original version intended to strike ships.
In August 2023, a representative of Ukraine’s defense ministry told The War Zone on condition of anonymity that the long Neptune could be launched from the same system as the anti-ship version.
