With a triumphant speech in the battleground state of Pennsylvania on Wednesday, Vice President JD Vance heralded the recent enactment of the “One Big, Beautiful Bill” that became a centerpiece accomplishment of President Donald Trump’s second term.

Vance, who helped push the legislation through Congress with a tie-breaking vote, trumpeted its tax cuts in conjunction with the tariffs on foreign imports Trump is using to punish other countries that he says have been cheating the United States on trade.

“If you’re building here, if you’re making here, if you’re working in the United States … we just gave you a big, fat tax break — but if you’re going to ship American jobs overseas, thanks to Donald Trump, you’re going to pay a big, fat tariff,” Vance told the audience.

With the success of the “One Big, Beautiful Bill” — which passed the House and Senate without the support of any Democrat lawmakers — Vance said, “We are creating the biggest tax breaks maybe in American history for investing and building in the United States.”

He added, “So if you’re a small business, if you’re a medium-sized business, if you want to invest in American workers, we are going to make it so you pay less taxes. Invest in Americans, and your government ought to award you. Isn’t that common sense?”

Vance recognized how the legislation included Trump’s 2024 campaign promises, including a provision that gave life to a proposal for “No Tax on Overtime,” allowing workers to deduct up to $12,500 for individuals and $25,000 for joint filers through 2028.

“Thanks to President Trump’s leadership, if you work overtime, the federal government is not going to take a dime of that overtime,” Vance declared while talking about what the bill does for Americans. “You earned that money — you ought to keep it in your pocket.”

Vance alluded to the announcement last month from the Treasury, revealing that wages for blue-collar workers were up more in the first five months of Trump’s second term than under any other president since 1969, a stat coinciding with a decrease in inflation.

“I’m really excited about the fact that for the first time in a very long time, workers’ wages are rising faster than inflation. You’re able to buy more, you’re able to do more, and we’re just getting started,” Vance said after extolling progress in border security efforts.

Upon contending “way too many Pennsylvania families were falling behind,” Vance emphasized that “blue-collar wages are rising faster than they have risen in 60 years. That is a testament to great presidential leadership and the great American people.”
