Actor Tom Cruise said during an interview this week that he hopes to follow in the footsteps of Harrison Ford and continue making movies for the next couple of decades.
The 61-year-old actor told The Sydney Morning Herald in Australia that he believes that the 80-year-old Ford, who continues to make films, is a “legend.”
“I hope to be still going; I’ve got 20 years to catch up with him,” he said. “I hope to keep making Mission: Impossible films until I’m his age.”
Cruise made the remarks as his summer blockbuster film “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One” is set to hit theaters next week.
“I grew up seeing movies on the big screen. That’s how I make them, and I like that experience; it’s immersive, and to have that as a community and an industry, it’s important,” Cruise said. “I still go the movies.”
Cruise also weighed in on the top movies that he wants to see this summer.
“I want to see both Barbie and Oppenheimer. I’ll see them opening weekend. Friday I’ll see Oppenheimer first and then Barbie on Saturday.”
Cruise shared behind-the-scenes shots this week from his upcoming film when he tweeted a video about a train action sequence filmed in Norway with the director of the film, Christopher McQuarrie.

“This train sequence was tricky, but the outcome made it all worth it,” Cruise tweeted. “I can’t wait for everyone to see it come to life!”
In the clip, we hear McQuarrie talking about how the movie’s “sense of adventure” would include an action train sequence, something they had “always wanted to do.”
“We wanted to build upon the previous films,” the director says. “And apply all of that knowledge to something practical and real.”
The footage shows outside shots of Cruise’s character Ethan Hunt on top of a train and a warehouse where the shell of a train with different train cars was being built to help them create movie magic.
“We had to build a train if we wanted to destroy it,” McQuarrie says, noting that the cars had to be able to run on a working “railroad track.”
Another voice comes on and explains that there’s a fight that takes place on top of a moving train going 60 mph through a real valley surrounded by mountains.
There’s also a shot of a bridge being blown up, as well as information about how the team had to crash the train in order for movie-goers to be “invested” in everything these characters go through.
