Actor Robert Pattinson said he spent half a year sleeping on an inflatable boat before he had any furniture.
The 37-year-old “Twilight” series star made the revelation while discussing his new foray into furniture design with Architectural Digest during an interview published Wednesday.
When asked about the worst sofa he ever owned, the celeb replied, “My least favorite could also be my most favorite. There was a time when the only piece of furniture I had for about six months was an inflatable boat that would double as my couch, bed and dining table.”
“I loved it very much, but it caused a lot of back problems,” he added.
Pattinson showed off his modern “elephant ear shaped” couch design in the same article, telling the interviewer that he started thinking about how it would look after filming “The Batman” (2022).
“I started sketching pieces of furniture I thought would make people interact in a playful and informal way,” he told the outlet. “They all had disproportionate, oversized elements that were quite fun. And in the process of making some models out of clay, I found that organic overlapping curves had a similar effect.”

The couch is on display at the antique furniture retailer JF Chen in Los Angeles. Due to the positive feedback he’s getting, Pattinson is now designing other furniture pieces.
Owner Joel Chen said, “I was in awe of the somewhat complicated design. The sofa is entirely unique, and Rob’s strong sense of the angled shapes interpreted from everyday objects is incredible.”
The British actor has a history of saying shocking things during interviews and has admitted to getting a thrill from it. During a 2018 discussion with his “The Lighthouse” co-star Willem Dafoe, Pattinson said he got “a certain high” from making headlines with off-the-wall interview responses.
“There’s a little gremlin inside of me that thinks, Just say something shocking. You’re only here for a few minutes, say something terrible. There’s a kind of perverse glee I get from that. But I’ve given my publicist a number of heart attacks,” Pattinson said at the time.
