President Donald Trump plans to attend Tuesday’s unprecedented meeting — which will see the top military brass from all around the world gathered together in Quantico, Virginia — and despite the swirling rumors, he says the meeting is supposed to be a positive one for all involved.
Trump told NBC News of his plans over the weekend, saying that the meeting’s agenda would include discussions about the great things that have been happening within the military since War Secretary Pete Hegseth took over and how the department was being reshaped — and renamed — going forward.
“It’s really just a very nice meeting talking about how well we’re doing militarily, talking about being in great shape, talking about a lot of good, positive things. It’s just a good message,” Trump told the outlet. “We have some great people coming in, and it’s just an ‘esprit de corps.’ You know the expression ‘esprit de corps’? That’s all it’s about. We’re talking about what we’re doing, what they’re doing, and how we’re doing.”
Logistics for such a meeting — particularly security for so many within the military’s senior leadership structure — were already complex, but with the addition of President Trump, Secret Service must also be involved in pulling it off.

When the meeting was first announced, rumors immediately began to fly as to its purpose, with a number suggesting that the top generals and admirals were being called to the same place so that Hegseth could fire the lot of them en masse.
Many cited Hegseth’s own words, noting that he had long planned to review and reduce the number of generals serving on active duty, calling his plan a “Less Generals More GIs Policy.” GI, a slang term for an enlisted soldier, stands for “Government Issue.”

The plan, according to Hegseth, was to reduce the number of generals and admirals by 20% — and then implement a second phase of the plan that removed a further 10% of generals and flag officers, to include admirals and rear admirals as well.
