Legendary NFL running back Jim Brown, one the league’s first superstars, has died. He was 87 years old.
A spokesperson for Brown said that he passed away peacefully at his home in Los Angeles on Thursday night while surrounded by his family.
“It is with profound sadness that I announce the passing of my husband, Jim Brown,” his wife Monique Brown said in a statement. “He passed peacefully last night at our LA home.”
“To the world he was an activist, actor, and football star,” she added. “To our family, he was a loving and wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. Our hearts are broken.”
The former first round draft pick had not been doing well recently and was recently visited by some of his closest friends, including Marshall Faulk, Eric Dickerson, and Flavor Flav, TMZ reported.
