Maine’s Speaker of the House, Ryan Fecteau, deleted his X account following his role in the censuring of Republican state Rep. Laurel Libby for a Facebook post calling attention to state Democrats violating an executive order from President Donald Trump to keep males out of girls and women’s sports.

As reported by The Daily Wire, Libby earlier this month posted public images of a transgender-identifying high school boy taking first place in girls’ pole vaulting at Maine’s Class B state championship — a win that helped the high school take first place overall.

Democrats on Tuesday moved to censure Libby because the post included an image of “a high school athlete, a minor,” and repeatedly interrupted the state representative when she tried to defend herself and highlight the harm of allowing males in female sports.

Fecteau, in particular, as House speaker, played a key role in leading the censuring. “The chair understands that the member does not intend to submit an apology to the body,” he said to Libby on Tuesday, to which she responded, “That is correct.”

“The member will be in violation of House rule 401, part 11; the member will not be allowed to cast a vote or speak on the floor until the member has come back into compliance with House rule 401, part 11,” Fecteau added. “The member may return to her seat.”

After the censure, Libby took to social media to speak out. “The Maine Democrat Majority has just moved to censure me, for speaking out against their failure to protect Maine girls and keep biological males out of girls’ sports,” the lawmaker said. “Let me be clear: I will not be silenced and I will not allow the voices of Maine girls to be silenced.”

On Thursday, Libby commented on Fecteau’s X account. “Apparently Maine’s Speaker of the House didn’t like hearing the voices of the people… State House Speaker Ryan Fecteau has deleted his X account less than 48 hours after the Democrat Majority’s attempt to cancel me,” she wrote. “#SpeakUpForGirls.”
