An Iranian woman who opposes the Islamic despotic regime in Iran, as millions of Iranians do, and was to engage in dialogue about Iranians connecting with Israelis, was prevented from speaking at an event in England when pro-Palestinian demonstrators screamed and would not let her speak.

Faezeh Alavi, an artist and PhD candidate at the University of St. Andrews, was speaking at a forum titled “From Conflict to Connection, Israelis and Iranians in Dialogue” at King’s College in London on Thursday night. At one point, Alavi spoke of Iranian dissidents who had raised the traditional lion and sun flag of Iran, not the Islamic flag that the theocratic regime had put in its place.

As she spoke of the flag, a pro-Palestinian activist started yelling at Alavi, shouting, “How can you talk about the flag being changed when you align yourself with Israelis?” The activist then launched into screaming, abetted by her cohorts, who joined with her in bellowing about “Palestine.”

A large percentage of Iranians despise the Iranian regime, which is a prime supporter of the terrorist groups that are bent on eliminating the state of Israel, such as Hezbollah and Hamas.

The Persian nation, which predated the Islamic regime, had an intermittent history of being friendly to the Jewish people; the Persian emperor Cyrus, who was known for his tolerance, permitted the Jews to return from exile and build the Second Temple in Jerusalem roughly 2,500 years ago. Jews have lived in Iran (Persia) for roughly 2,700 years.

President Donald Trump stated in 2018, “The future of Iran belongs to its people. They are the rightful heirs to a rich culture and an ancient land. And they deserve a nation that does justice to their dreams, honor to their history, and glory to God.”

Six days after the barbaric Hamas massacre of more than 1,200 people in Israel, the Atlantic Council noted:

Anyone familiar with Iranian society knows that anti-Israel attitudes have mostly failed to go beyond the most vociferous supporters of the regime despite years of attempted indoctrination. On October 8, the day after the attacks, as Tehran’s Persepolis FC faced Gol Gohar in the city’s iconic Azadi soccer stadium, some pro-government figures tried to raise the Palestinian flag from the stands. The backlash they faced was immediate. Thousands of fans started shouting a slogan formulated in the rowdy and rude tone of soccer fans everywhere, “Shove the Palestinian flag up your a–.”

“Iranians oppose the Islamic Republic’s destructive policy against Israel, just like they oppose its other interventionist goals,” the Atlantic Council noted. “They are asking a basic question: why waste Iranian resources on terror groups in the region, which has also resulted in more international isolation for Iran with severe consequences for Iranian livelihoods? … Second, unlike the Arab world, Iran has no history of widespread antagonism to Israel.”
