Democrats in Maine on Tuesday evening censured Republican state Rep. Laurel Libby for a Facebook post calling attention to state Democrats violating an executive order from President Donald Trump to keep males out of girls and women’s sports.

As reported by The Daily Wire, Libby earlier this month posted public images of a transgender-identifying high school boy taking first place in girls’ pole vaulting at Maine’s Class B state championship — a win that helped the high school take first place overall.

Democrats argued that Libby should be censured because the post included an image of “a high school athlete, a minor,” and repeatedly interrupted Libby when she tried to defend herself and highlight the harm of allowing males in female sports.

Libby made clear during her comments on the floor that the photos were public. She also said she was told by Democrats to remove the photo from her Facebook page and argued that this was done because she was shining a light on “truth,” not because of the age of the athletes in the photos.

“The Maine Democrat Majority has just moved to censure me, for speaking out against their failure to protect Maine girls and keep biological males out of girls’ sports,” the lawmaker posted to X. “Let me be clear: I will not be silenced and I will not allow the voices of Maine girls to be silenced.”

“Our girls deserve so much better than the ‘leadership’ that [Gov. Janet Mills] and the Maine Democrat Majority are currently offering,” Libby continued. “I will not be bullied into rejecting basic common sense: biological males have *no place* in girls’ sports. Period.”

Since Libby was stopped from giving her full prepared remarks, she posted them to X following the censure.

Maine’s Department of Education and the Maine Principals’ Association (MPA) are standing by their transgender policies for schools, including athletics, The Daily Wire reported last week.

President Trump has since said publicly that he’ll be withholding federal funds from Maine and the United States Departments of Education and Agriculture have launched Title IX investigations into the state.
