MSNBC legal analyst Caroline Polisi declared on Thursday that Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis’ case against former President Donald Trump is effectively dead in the water.
Polisi tied her assessment to a bombshell revelation that came out Thursday morning — namely that Willis was romantically involved with her hand-selected special prosecutor Nathan Wade much earlier than she had admitted to the court.
“Don’t let the legalese fool you. This is epic. This is monumental,” Polisi said. “If things are going in the direction we think, Fani Willis lied to the court, it’s game over for her. She will be disqualified. If they had a relationship prior to when they represented truth to the court, it’s a huge deal. I can’t overstate.”
Polisi laid out similar — if more succinct — feelings via X, saying, “Fani Willis’s case is OVER. She lied to the court. Case closed.”

Polisi gave an additional statement to Mediaite, explaining just how damaging the fallout could be for the case against Trump if Willis were to be disqualified.
“Willis will be disqualified, which means her entire office is disqualified, which means the case will have to be re-assigned and languish with the PAC of Georgia, effectively killing the case. Her credibility is completely shot,” she said.

According to the testimony of a former Fulton County DA employee — who has been friends with Willis since they were in college — the romantic relationship between Willis and Wade began in 2019. That testimony directly contradicts the sworn statements from both Willis and Wade, who have claimed that any romantic relationship between them did not begin until 2022.

If Willis gave a false statement to the court, simply being disqualified from the Trump case may be the least of her worries. “Knowingly giving false statements to a court is punishable in Georgia by a $1,000 fine and up to 5 years of jail,” conservative communications strategist Greg Price noted.
