Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie announced on Wednesday that he is suspending his campaign for president after failing to gain enough traction in New Hampshire where he had staked his entire operation.

Christie, whose campaign centered around attacking former President Donald Trump, made the announcement while speaking to supporters in Windham, New Hampshire.

“I am going to make sure that in no way do I enable Donald Trump to ever be President of the United States again,” Christie said. “And that’s more important than my own personal ambitions.”

The 61-year-old slammed Republican politicians who refused to speak out publicly against Trump as “cowards.” He specifically called out Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY) and Rep. Tom Emmer (R-MN) — both of whom recently endorsed Trump — saying that he knows that both of them know better.

Christie also appeared to take a shot at former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, saying that anyone who refuses to say that Trump is unfit for office was unfit themselves to hold the nation’s highest office. Christie criticized Haley last month for saying that Trump was fit to be president, saying she should “be ashamed of herself.”
