Former President Joe Biden told reporters on Friday that he could “beat the hell outta both of them,” referencing CNN anchor Jake Tapper and journalist Alex Thompson, who co-authored a book detailing Biden’s cognitive decline and the corresponding White House cover-up.
“There’s also been a lot of discussion recently about your mental and physical capabilities while you were in office,” a reporter said to Biden at a public event in Delaware, according to RealClearPolitics.
“You can see that I’m mentally incompetent and I can’t walk, and I can beat the hell out of both of them,” Biden responded, seeming to reference the authors.
Though Tapper details Biden’s cognitive decline in his new book, the anchor has been strongly criticized by the Right for refusing to acknowledge Biden’s very apparent mental troubles during his presidency.
At the same event, another reporter followed up on the health reports and asked Biden about the 2024 election. “Do you want to reply to any of those reports, and also to the fact that there are some Democrats who are now questioning whether you should have run for reelection in the first place?”
“Why didn’t they run against me then?” the former president challenged. “Because I’d have beaten them.”
Biden added that he doesn’t have “any regrets” about staying in the presidential race for as long as he did.
“Look, there’s a lot going on, and I think we’re in a really difficult moment—not only in American history, but in world history,” Biden continued. “I think we’re in one of those inflection points in history where the decisions we make in the next little bit are going to determine what things look like for the next 20 years. I’ve been talking about that for a long time. And I’m very proud. I’d put my record as president against any president at all.”

“You notice the 12–the 10 leading presidential historians rated me pretty good up on that list—and the guy I ran against, [they] rated him last,” he said, referencing President Donald Trump. “So, we’ll see.”
The former president also briefly discussed his cancer diagnosis, which was made public earlier this month.
“The prognosis is good. And, you know, we’re working on everything,” he said. “It’s moving along, so I feel good.”
Detailing his treatment, Biden added, “It’s all a matter of taking a pill, one particular pill, for the next six weeks, and then another one. And the expectation is we’re going to be able to beat this. It’s not in any organ. My bones are strong. It hasn’t penetrated. So I’m feeling good.”
