Longtime “Today” show host Al Roker shared an incredible update with fans following his multiple hospitalizations last year for a series of blood clots — and he admitted it’s “been a long road” to recovery.
The 69-year-old weatherman shared a screenshot on Wednesday on his Instagram showing the progress he’s made in just a year, going from only being able to take a little over 5,000 steps in a day to now well over 10,000 steps consecutively for the last two months.
“A year ago, I was struggling after getting home from the hospital,” Roker captioned his post on social media. “This week marks 60 days in a row of 10k+ steps a day.”

“Been a long road with a lot of folks helping me along the way,” he added crediting his wife [Deborah Roberts] and younger daughter [Leila Roker] with “leading the charge.”
Last year, Roker was hospitalized before Thanksgiving when a blood clot in his leg “sent some clots” into his lungs. He later opened up about the “life-threatening” crisis that landed him in the hospital multiple times, first in November and then again in December.
“I had this internal bleeding going on. I lost half my blood,” the TV personality explained at the time. “And they were trying to figure out where it was. And finally, they went in, did the surgery. I had two bleeding ulcers.”
Roker said doctors ended up having to resection his colon, take out his gallbladder, and more.
He joked he “went in for one operation [and] got four free.”
“As we were decompressing and debriefing, Deborah and Leila talked about how difficult and bad it was,” Roker previously told TODAY.
In May, he underwent knee replacement surgery and Roker said he used that recovery to get even stronger, Today reported.
“(I thought) well, what are you going to do? I’m just going to get better, and here we go, it’s next year,” the TV host said. “I’m not one much for looking back. I would prefer to look forward.”
Roker these days is taking anywhere from 10,641 steps to as high as 15,161 steps, according to the screenshot he shared on social media.
