NextImg:Astronomer CEO Addresses ‘Unusual And Surreal’ Attention Following Coldplay Kiss Cam Drama

The new CEO of Astronomer, the tech company at the center of a kiss cam scandal from last week, issued a new statement on the situation.

Pete DeJoy, who stepped into the role after the former CEO, Andy Byron, resigned on Saturday, noted the “unusual and surreal” amount of attention the company has received ever since a TikTok of the Coldplay concert incident went viral.

In the video clip, the former CEO, Byron, is seen embracing a woman when the camera lands on the couple. The two quickly stepped away from each other and out of frame after realizing they were being broadcast to the entire stadium at the July 16 show in Foxborough, Massachusetts.

Online sleuths quickly identified the man as Byron and claimed the woman was Kristin Cabot, who is Chief People Officer for Astronomer. The company has not clarified the identities of either person in the video other than to say an investigation is taking place and to note that Byron has resigned as CEO.

“The spotlight has been unusual and surreal for our team and, while I would never have wished for it to happen like this, Astronomer is now a household name,” DeJoy wrote in the lengthy update shared on LinkedIn.

The CEO and co-founder, who said he spent his entire professional life helping build Astronomer, noted that the company has faced “challenges” before, including financial struggles and “scaling from 30 to 300 people during a global pandemic.”

“And yet, we’re still here,” DeJoy continued. “We’re here because Astronomer is built by people who live to solve hard problems, stay late to fix what’s broken, and care deeply about doing things the right way. We’re here because our customers trust us with their most ambitious data & AI projects. And, most importantly, we’re here because the mission is bigger than any one moment.”

He concluded the letter by saying the company’s “story is very much still being written” and thanking customers for their “trust.”

“We won’t let you down,” DeJoy promised.
