President Donald Trump has nominated The Heritage Foundation’s lead economist, E.J. Antoni, as the next Commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
“Our Economy is booming, and E.J. will ensure that the Numbers released are HONEST and ACCURATE,” Trump said on Truth Social. “I know E.J. Antoni will do an incredible job in this new role. Congratulations E.J.!”
Antoni will need to be confirmed to the position by the Senate before starting his four-year term. He currently serves as chief economist at Heritage’s Center for the Federal Budget. Previously, he worked as an economist at the Texas Public Policy Foundation.
Earlier this month, Trump fired Bureau of Labor Statistics Commissioner Erika McEntarfer. He said she had “rigged” jobs figures to make him look bad.
Heritage Foundation president Kevin Roberts praised Antoni’s appointment.
“Having worked with EJ at both TPPF and Heritage—I can confirm that he will be the absolute best,” Roberts said on X. “POTUS continues to make superb personnel and policy decisions on behalf of the American people.”
