New legislation would require the Department of Homeland Security to notify Congress of crimes committed by illegal aliens that the Biden administration paroled in the country.
Rep. Morgan Luttrell, R-Texas, introduced the Criminal Illegal Alien Report Act on Thursday. The bill, if passed and signed into law, would require DHS to “to report to Congress on crimes committed by individuals who were previously admitted into the United States under the Processes for Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans, and Venezuelans, or any other grant of parole, who have committed crimes, including their nationalities and ties to terrorists and transnational criminal groups,” according to a press release from the Texas lawmaker’s office.
“If we’re serious about securing our country, we need to know exactly what we’re up against,” Luttrell said in a statement.
“The bill I introduced will give Congress the hard facts we need to work with the Trump administration to strengthen security and make sure those who threaten our communities are stopped in their tracks,” the Texas Republican said. “Protecting Americans should be the top priority.”
Under the Biden administration, the Processes for Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans, and Venezuelans program granted parole to hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens. The U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants, a pro-immigration nonprofit, reports that more than 530,000 Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans, and Venezuelans entered the U.S. under the program.
The parole program allowed Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans, and Venezuelans to fly directly into the interior of the U.S., landing at airports from Miami to Los Angeles.
President Donald Trump ended the Processes for Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans, and Venezuelans parole program on his first day in office, but many of the migrants who entered the country under the program are presumed to still be in the U.S.
Trump also terminated the CPB One mobile application, another parole avenue widely used by illegal aliens to enter the country under the Biden administration.
As a member of the House Homeland Security Committee, Luttrell has introduced a number of pieces of legislation aimed at decreasing the threat illegal immigration poses to the U.S.
On Feb. 11, the Texas lawmaker introduced a bill to create vetting standards for the sponsors of unaccompanied alien children.
“The Biden administration’s open-border policies turned our border into a gateway for cartels, human traffickers, and criminals, putting American lives at risk and endangering innocent children,” Luttrell said in a speech on the House floor after introducing the bill.
Under the Biden administration, the Department of Health and Human Services lost contact with more than 300,000 migrant children, raising widespread concerns that many of those minors were or are at risk of being trafficked and exploited.
“We must hold traffickers accountable and ensure that illegal immigrants who break our laws face real consequences,” Luttrell said. “Our border must be secured, and those who exploit our system—whether criminals or failed bureaucrats—must answer for their failures. The American people deserve law and order, and thankfully, Republicans and the Trump administration are quickly cleaning up the mess that Joe Biden left.”
