The Utah Valley University Police Department confirmed to The Daily Signal Wednesday that shots had been fired on campus.
“We have had shots fired on campus,” a police spokeswoman told The Daily Signal. “We’re asking everyone to shelter in place.”
Sources told CNN that Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, had been injured in the shooting at the university in Orem, Utah.
An unknown assailant opened fire at Krik’s event as he conducted a question and answer session with students Wednesday.
“Shots fired at [Charlie Kirk] event at Utah Valley University,” Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, posted on X. “This is a good time to pray.”
Vice President JD Vance posted on X, “Say a prayer for Charlie Kirk, a genuinely good guy and a young father.”
The Southern Poverty Law Center, which puts mainstream conservative and Christian groups on a “hate map” with Ku Klux Klan chapters, added Turning Point USA to the map this summer.
