The Daily Signal announced today that journalist Rebecca Downs will serve as the outlet’s first-ever Ohio correspondent, bringing her extensive political reporting experience to cover state government and politics in the Buckeye State.
Downs, who previously served as web editor for Townhall, has nearly a decade of journalism experience. Her work is regularly featured by RealClearPolitics and shared by President Donald Trump, members of Congress, and congressional committees. Downs has appeared regularly on The Daily Signal’s “The Tony Kinnett Cast” for over a year to share her political commentary.
“I’m excited to bring my passion for journalism and covering government with a new focus on Ohio,” Downs said. “I look forward to bringing The Daily Signal’s growing audience accurate and timely reporting on how state government actions affect their daily lives.”
Downs’ résumé includes positions at MRC Culture Newsbusters.org, where she exposed bias in television and news media, and Students for Life of America, where she covered the 2020 election. Her freelance work has appeared in Live Action News, Faithwire, The College Fix, and Red Alert Politics, with her stories being covered by major outlets such as Fox News.
A graduate of Fordham University with a bachelor’s degree in history and Regent University’s Robertson School of Government with a master’s degree in American government, Downs will use her knowledge to produce stories about Ohio’s legislative session and political developments ahead of next year’s elections.
Earlier this year, The Daily Signal named veteran broadcaster Joe Thomas as its Virginia correspondent to cover the commonwealth’s elections and related news.
