Authorities arrested a former Voice of America employee Thursday following allegations that he made multiple threatening calls targeting Republican Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and her staff.

Seth Jason, 45, a longtime Voice of America employee, faces serious charges, including influencing a federal official by threatening a family member and interstate communications with intent to kidnap or injure, according to the Department of Justice (DOJ). U.S. Capitol Police, along with the Anne Arundel Police Department, arrested Jason early this morning.

The indictment reveals that between Oct. 2023 and Jan. 2025, Jason allegedly made eight threatening calls to Greene’s district offices in Dalton, Ga. and Rome, Ga. Over the span of 15 months, Jason allegedly used various phone lines connected to Voice of America, where he had worked for years in studios and control rooms, to threaten Greene, her staff, and their families with firearms.

“For 15 months, I received terrifying death threats from one individual who worked alarmingly close to my office building at the Voice of America. That kind of sustained, targeted harassment is deeply disturbing. I truly feared for my life, as I do with all of the death threats I receive. I want to thank U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro, Senior Advisor Kari Lake, the Capitol Police, and the prosecutors who took this threat seriously and acted decisively to stop someone who was planning to kill me,” Greene told Daily Caller News Foundation. “Threatening an elected official, their family, or their staff is not free speech; it’s a crime, and it must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. My family and I are incredibly grateful. Justice must be served.”

Jason faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison for influencing a federal official by threatening a family member. If convicted of making interstate communications with a threat to kidnap or injure, he could face up to five years. The charge of anonymous telecommunications harassment carries a maximum sentence of two years. The court will determine Jason’s sentence if he is convicted, based on the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines.

Authorities are taking these threats seriously in light of recent political violence, including the murder of Democratic Minnesota State Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband, who were shot in their home in an apparent politically-motivated attack. Authorities said that the suspect is believed to have impersonated a law enforcement officer and exchanged gunfire with police overnight. Police captured Vance Luther Boelter after a nearly two-day manhunt in rural Minnesota.

Voice of America did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
