There are very few issues in Washington that warrant extensive discussion. Most issues fall into the 70/30 basket, or even the 90/10. Transgender rights for children is an example of overwhelming support to ban medical or surgical interventions for children under the age of 18. However, it is still argued ad nauseam by some. Abortion rights are an example of an issue that falls into a gray area. This topic has always been, and probably always will be, a 50/50 issue, stirring up emotions and debate. One thing is crystal clear since 2015: whatever Donald Trump feels about a particular issue sets how the Left feels; the exact opposite. Senator John Kennedy (R-LA), who may be my favorite politician of all time, for his intelligence, common sense, and incredible wit, explains it this way: “If Trump declared breathing was essential to maintain life, the Democrats would hold their breath.” This is such lazy thinking on the part of the Left, and it makes it so easy for someone like Trump to manipulate them.
Crime is a perfect example of the irrational thinking of the Left. Washington, D.C., has been a national embarrassment for decades. Under Democrat leadership, our nation’s capital had spiraled into a hellhole of decay and urban crime. The city was unsafe for human habitation. Trump took action to regain the city by sending in the National Guard to assist local authorities. Almost immediately, the city took on a new life. Homicides, which were a daily occurrence, ceased, as did assaults and carjackings. Restaurants began to fill up and foot traffic returned. The city was reborn, and Mayor Bowser, who had initially opposed the troops on her city’s streets, praised Trump for his actions. She had little choice, for the stats proved the President’s action worked. Unfortunately, the leaders of Chicago, New York, and Oakland failed to acknowledge the obvious: their cities faced significant crime issues, and the President offered a solution. Instead of welcoming the help for their constituents, they called Trump a Hitler-like dictator, his troops the Gestapo, and took to the liberal courts to block Trump’s efforts to revive some of our great cities.
The leaders of our great urban centers did long-lasting damage when they adopted the defund the police thinking that stemmed from the BLM scam. Not only did they directly cut police manpower, but they also created an exodus of their most experienced officers. Although the thinking has shifted, and they are working to rebuild the forces in numbers, they cannot bridge the experience gap created by removing senior officers. They have made less effective police forces that cannot offset the gang activity and rising crime numbers. To appease the Left that BLM heavily influenced, they created unsafe environments for the people they pledged to protect.
Trump Derangement Syndrome is real and has existed since Trump rode the golden escalator in 2015. How long it will last is the question pondered today. Trump will not appear on any future ballots, but his followers will. They will face the same angst as their mentor. Trump has effectively changed both Parties. He reformed the Republican Party to be of and for the people. The GOP is about American exceptionalism and making America great again. He has also changed the Democratic Party into a rudderless group that is anti-America and leaning more towards Socialism. Trump has exposed the Democrats as Left-leaning radicals who have abandoned their roots and pushed their followers to support the Right. Trump will end his political career in three years, but his impact will be felt on the political battleground for decades to come.
