NextImg:Kamala Harris’ Refusal (and Inability) to Answer Questions

The Kamala Harris interview on Fox was frustrating to watch. Bret Baier asked a number of specific questions.  Harris did not answer one of them, instead pivoting to attack Trump on everything, refusing to acknowledge what happened under the Biden administration.  Baier asked her repeatedly about the millions of foreign nationals coming into the US unattended and whether that was a good thing.  [She] would not even acknowledge it occurred.  [He] asked her when she noticed that Biden was in decline. [She] wouldn’t even acknowledge any diminishment.  It was like interviewing someone who lives in a different universe. …  I never liked Harris as a politician because I don’t believe she understands the problems much less could solve them. Now I am 100% convinced Harris does not have the ability to run this country and if elected would be worse than Biden.

Bill O’Reilly, Oct 16, 2024

When Kamala Harris first [entered] the 2024 race, the joy was palpable. … And then, suddenly, it faded away.  What happened?  … The answer is simple: The American people realized that Kamala Harris is, after all, Kamala Harris. She’s still the awkward, empty, incoherent mess she was when she ran for president in 2019. She doesn’t know how to answer basic questions about her own policies.  She doesn’t even know her own policies. … Her platitudinous slogans are matched in [their] vacuity only by the [exaggerated] ersatz enthusiasm with which she utters them. All the off-putting tics, the random laughter, the strange hand motions, the nasal smugness as she recites obvious tautologies [have] all reappeared with a vengeance.  In short, she’s terrible.  … That’s devastating news for a Democratic Party that hoped to move forward, unburdened by what has been [in the Biden-Harris administration for the last 4 years].

Democrats Wondering If It’s Too Late to Go Back to Joe Biden.

Democrats had decided that Biden was indeed too senile, but checked to see if perhaps Jimmy Carter [currently in hospice care age 100] was interested in a second term.

Babylon Bee headline, Oct. 16, 2024

Despite the fact that Harris did not answer any of the questions put to her by Brett Bair on Foxnews, questions the peasants deserve to have answered before they vote in November, what’s left of our “news media” is protecting her.  CNN Politics leads with the headline, “Harris clashes with Fox as she tries to peel away some GOP voters.”  That is, the story is not that she did not answer the questions.  The story is that she “clashes” with Brett Bair.  Is the “news” now about wrestling matches between Democrats and Republicans?

MSNBC’s headline was:  “Kamala Harris’ Foxnews interview said more about Bret Baier than it did her and tells us that “The vice president gave as good as she got in a contentious 30-minute interview on the conservative network.”  Again, the story is not about Harris’ failed interview.  It is about Brett Bair’s (alleged) biases.  Did MSNBC say the same about ABC’s Rachel Scott’s demonstrably false assertions in her rude attacks on Trump in her interview with him, namely, that her rude attacks reveal more about her than about Trump (which is true, by the way)?  Did MSNBC say the same about David Muir and Linsey Davis with their demonstrably unfair and inaccurate 3 against 1 tag-team “fact checks” of Donald Trump in ABC’s Trump-Harris debate, namely, that their attacks reveal more about Muir and Davis’s biases, than they did about Trump (which is true, by the way)?   Of course not.  Because the aim was to “get Trump” by any means, including cheating, necessary.

NBC News leads with the headline, “Harris branches out while Trump preaches to the choir … While VP Harris branches out to Fox and CNN, former President Trump is mostly avoiding the mainstream media in the stretch run.”  Again, the story is not about the fact that Harris did not answer any questions, but that her Fox interview was a success just by virtue of her going somewhere, Fox and CNN, where she had not been expected to go.

CNN leads with the headline, “Harris clashes with Fox as she tries to peel away some GOP voters,” adding that “Harris didn’t get her second debate with Trump so she went on Fox News instead.”  Again, the story is not that Harris did not answer any of the questions, but that since Trump is (allegedly) ducking a second debate, she bravely went for a “clash” with a Trump-proxy, Foxnews, instead.  Her failure to answer any questions is already a victory because she “clashed” with a Trump surrogate!  She doesn’t have to answer any of the peasant’s questions to win.  She just has to wrestle!  Take that, yokels!

In fact, even the presupposition of the CNN story is false.  Since there is plenty of criticism of Trump on Fox, it is not even close to being his proxy.  Trump has even criticized Brett Bair for his “hostile” line of questions in his own interview with Bair in 2023.

Note, by the way, the even more subtle presupposition of the CNN headline, that an interview on Fox News is equivalent to a debate with Trump.  But a debate is, by its very nature, contentious.  Etymology of “debate”:  “to quarrel, combat, fight, make war” originally “to fight,” from de- “down, completely” (see de-) + batre “to beat,” from Latin battuere “beat”.  By contrast, in an interview, one is not supposed to “fight” or “beat” down one’s questioner.  Etymology of “interview”:  “face-to-face meeting, … to see each other … to have a glimpse of [each other],” from entre– “between” (see inter-) + Old French voir “to see”.  In an interview, one is supposed to have an exchange with the questioner by answering the questions.  However, CNN sees Harris’ refusal to answer the questions as a success because she refused to be interviewed by Brett Bair and insisted, instead, on debating him!

What all these “news” outlets have in common is that they represent Harris refusal to be interviewed in the proper sense of the word, her refusal to answer Bair’s questions, but instead to be difficult, as a victory in itself.  That is, they all deflect questions about Harris’ lack of answers to the questions Bair put to the importance of Harris’ truculent personality, her identity!   That is, they all do precisely what Harris does:  Deflect.  What a surprise!  What is important is not Harris’ answers to the questions (because she didn’t give any).  What is important is Harris herself, the person, the inevitable outcome of the Democrat’s obsession with “identity-politics”.  Who’s the prom queen this year and what is she like?

But how does being difficult, deflecting questions, help to put food on the table of poor people in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Detroit, Milwaukee, Atlanta, Vegas, Phoenix or Tuscon?  How does Harris’ truculence help people all over the country whose communities, streets, schools and health care facilities are overrun by people here illegally?  How does Harris’ truculence help people and businesses worried about the dramatic rise in crime

Of course, it does not, and that is what the Democrat “news”-media poodles, abdicating their responsibility to the American people, do not want the peasants to notice.
