NextImg:Voters Favor Noem Over Mayorkas for Border Security, Approve of Trump’s Deployment of National Guard in LA

Far more voters think DHS Sec. Kristi Noem is doing a good job securing the U.S. border than felt that way about her Biden Administration predecessor and a strong majority support Pres. Trump’s deployment of the National Guard to Los Angeles to quell the violent anti-immigration enforcement protests, new Rasmussen surveys reveal.

Today, half (49%) of U.S. likely voters say Noem is doing either a good (18%) or excellent (31%) job of securing the border and preventing illegal immigration, compared to only 29% who felt that way last November when Alejandro Mayorkas was Department of Homeland Security (DHS) secretary. Coincidentally, November was the same month that Americans elected Donald Trump, who made border security a major campaign pledge, to a second term as president.

Conversely, the share of voters rating the DHS secretary’s border security work as “poor” has fallen from 45% under Mayorkas to 29% under Noem.

Ironically, Hispanic voters are significantly more likely to approve of Sec. Noem’s work to secure the border than are White, Black or other races of voter. Nearly two-thirds (63%) of Hispanic voters rate Noem’s efforts either good (29%) or excellent (34%). In contrast, 49% of White voters, 36% of Black voters and 41% of others give Noem a grade of either good or excellent.

U.S. likely voters also support Pres. Trump’s decision to deploy 2,000 National Guardsmen to Los Angeles to protect federal law enforcement agents and facilities from the growing number of attacks by pro-illegal immigration activists during the sanctuary city’s anti-ICE (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement) protests.

In a separate survey, Rasmussen asked likely voters:

“After federal immigration agents were attacked in Los Angeles recently, President Trump mobilized National Guard troops to prevent further attacks.

”Do you approve or disapprove of Trump’s decision to mobilize the National Guard?”

Fully 41% of likely voters said they “strongly approve” of Trump’s deployment of the National Guard. Another 16% said they “somewhat approve” – bringing total voter support of the deployment to 57%.

Fewer voters (40%) said they disapprove of Trump’s use of the National Guard, but those who were prone to be passionate about their objection. Just 9% of all voters said they “somewhat” disapprove, while 31% said they “strongly” disapprove.

Again, Hispanic voters were strongly in favor of Trump’s deployment of the National Guard to keep the peace in Los Angeles when Mayor Karen Bass either failed, or refused, to do so. Here, 60% of Hispanic voters said they either strongly (34%) or somewhat (26%) approve of Trump’s decision.

Majorities of White (55%), Black (56%) and other (65%) voters also voiced support for Trump’s deployment of the National Guard during the violent protests.
