(CNSNews.com) - In a March 20 letter to Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, three House Republicans are demanding his testimony in what “plainly appears to be a politically motivated prosecutorial decision” to indict Donald Trump.
“You are reportedly about to engage in an unprecedented abuse of prosecutorial authority, the indictment of a former President of the United States and current declared candidate for that office,” the letter begins.
“This indictment comes after years of your office searching for a basis – any basis – on which to bring charges, ultimately settling on a novel legal theory untested anywhere in the country and one that federal authorities declined to pursue.
“If these reports are accurate, your actions will erode confidence in the evenhanded application of justice and unalterably interfere in the course of the 2024 presidential election.
“In light of the serious consequences of your actions, we expect that you will testify about what plainly appears to be a politically motivated prosecutorial decision.”
The letter is signed by House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), House Administration Committee Chairman Bryan Steil (R-Wis.), and Chairman of the House Oversight Committee James Comer (R-Ky.)
The Republican committee chairs are demanding that Bragg produce all documents and communications relating to his office’s prosecution of Donald Trump.
They also say that Bragg’s testimony is “necessary to advance our oversight and to inform potential legislative reforms.”
They have directed Bragg to testify in a transcribed interview “as soon as possible.”
