(CNSNews.com) – Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick warned Monday that the group of about 1,000 migrants who tried to rush the border with El Paso, Texas, is what could lie ahead because of Biden’s failed policies.
The migrants, made up of mostly Venezuelans, were under the impression that they would be allowed in because of a false rumor about a “day of the migrant” celebration.
“I was glad to see Mexico finally do something, and I was not surprised at the quick response from our team: DPS, Border Patrol working together. They put the call out for backup, and our state was there to support them,” he told Fox News’ “America’s Newsroom.”
The lieutenant governor warned that “this is what could lie ahead for the failed Biden policies.”
“Imagine had those thousand not stopped? You could have had blood shed on the border. How would the Mexican troops have responded? How would those rushing the barbed wire have responded? How would our troops responded?” Patrick said.
“This is what could happen as long as Joe Biden continues to leave this border wide open and invite people to come to America. By the way, the Mexican president could help out besides wanting to get involved in our elections what he said last week by closing his own southern border,” he said.
“Their border is much smaller than our 1900-mile border. They could stop these people from even getting into Mexico. That's what Mexico could really do to help,” the lieutenant governor added.
Patrick was asked to weigh in on reports that the Biden administration is considering allowing migrant families to be detained together at detention centers after crossing the southern border.
“I can't predict what Joe Biden will say. In fact, he can't predict what he will say from moment to moment. It goes back to the old Obama/Biden policies when they did exactly this and then when president trump continued it, president trump was criticized for what they had done. So it is hard to say what this president is doing,” he said.
“We have a disaster everywhere, Bill - inflation, economy, banks failing, Europe at war, maybe Taiwan and China, and the border is wide open with millions, bill. I have been with you many times. Millions have crossed since he become president illegally, and we filed a bill Friday Senate bill 2424 to show those coming here illegally we mean business in Texas,” the lieutenant governor said.
“If you come here, and you have a conviction for a felony, you could face up to life in prison. This is a brand-new crime, and if you cross illegally for any reason, up to a year in jail,” he said.
“The second time [is] up to two years, but if people come here, a word to those criminals that continue to cross the border, we’re going to put you in jail for up to life because, Bill, when you send fentanyl drugs across the border, you are taking lives of Americans, many, number one cause of death for young people,” Patrick said.
“When you come here, and you commit a crime and kill someone or aggravated assault, you are destroying someone's life. A message to everyone on the other side of the border. Number one, even if you’re going to face up to a year in jail or maybe two if this is the second time, and if you’re a criminal, up to life in prison in Texas. We mean business,” he said.
Host Bill Hemmer said he has a nephew on spring break in Mexico right now. He asked what advice the lieutenant governor would give him.
“I would tell him to get out of Mexico, because you never know, Bill, no matter how smart you are and reliable you are as a young person or even an adult you could get caught in a bad situation by none of your own doing,” Patrick said.
“You could get caught in the crossfire, but more than that, Bill, you have to remember that there are people in the cartels in Mexico just looking for easy targets to rob, to kidnap. We've seen it. We're still missing three women from Texas. There is no reason for anyone in America to go to Mexico. It is dangerous. Stay out of Mexico, and maybe that will finally get the president of Mexico to do something about the cartels,” he said.
