“No,” House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) told reporters Tuesday, when asked if he regretted releasing video of a mob’s breach of the Capitol on January 6, 2021 to Fox News Channel’s Tucker Carlson.
“No. I said at the very beginning: transparency,” McCarthy replied. “And so, what I wanted to produce for everybody was exactly what I said: that people could look at it and see what’s going on that day."
"Look, each person can come up with their own conclusion. But, I just wanted to make sure I had transparency,” McCarthy said, as reporters continued to badger him about his decision.
“No. I said at the very beginningMcCarthy also cited the one-sided video shown to the public by the January 6 Committee hearings, as a reason for releasing the full security video of the incident.
Speaker McCarthy said he consulted with Capitol Police to ensure that they didn’t have security concerns about the video, and that their only issue had been addressed before the video was released.
CNN, however, didn’t seem to have that concern, when it comprised security by revealing the secret location where members were taken on January 6:
“Because, I know at CNN, I mean I have here, where you guys actually broke where we were, this is a secret location, Fort McNair.
“I don’t know who got concerned by that. I don’t even know, from Fort McNair security, if we can ever be taken there again. But, when you broke that at CNN, that was a real concern to a lot of people. I had a real concern, also, but I wanted to make transparency.”
