A foul-mouthed, scandal-plagued, two-term Democrat Georgia judge was removed from office Tuesday for “judicial misconduct” – five days after being arrested outside an Atlanta nightclub for allegedly simple battery against a police officer and felony willful obstruction of law enforcement by use of threats of violence.

Douglaston County Probate Judge Christina Peterson was removed after the George Supreme Court ruled that Peterson “exhibited a pattern of judicial misconduct while in office,” as charged by the Judicial Qualifications Commission.

“We agree that removal is warranted here,” the Court rule, concluding that there is “clear and convincing evidence” that Peterson violated 28 of 30 counts of violating the Code of Judicial Conduct and that she should be disciplined for 12 of those violations.

Early Thursday morning, Peterson was arrested at the Red Martini Restaurant and Lounge after allegedly pushing an Atlanta police officer in the chest twice during an altercation and obstructing the officer who was trying to de-escalate an incident.

A preliminary police report says the judge “appeared to be under the influence,” The Daily Mail explains:

“Cops said she had been engaging in a night of drinking before the altercation, and police worn body camera footage shows the judge, wearing a low-cut dress- wrapped up in a physical fight which allegedly came just seconds before the strike.”

Body-camera footage released by the Atlanta Police Department appears to show Peterson:

As a result of Tuesday’s court ruling, Peterson removed from office and banned from holding any judicial post in the state for seven years, due to the Judicial Qualifications Commission’s charges.

The high court agreed with the Commission that Peterson routinely displayed a “flagrant disregard for the law, court rules, and judicial conduct rules” as part of her “pattern of violations” of judicial rules.

In one extraordinary case, the Commission found that Judge Peterson sentenced a woman to prison “without explanation or justification” when the woman was merely appealing to change an incorrect name on her marriage certificate.

At one point during her ignominious time on the bench, Judge Peterson was facing 50 counts of alleged misconduct.
