During an interview on Piers Morgan Uncensored, famed evolutionary biologist Richard Hawkins dismissed the claims of transgender activists who want to change the language about human sexuality saying, "there are two sexes and that's all there is to it."
On the March 20 program, host Piers Morgan said to Dawkins, “What’s extraordinary to me is they [transgender activists] want to, what they call de-gender and neutralize language. But they’re doing it from a completely false pretext that you can somehow pretend that biology doesn’t exist, particularly when it comes to someone’s sex."
"I mean it’s incontrovertible," said Morgan. "There’s no scientific doubt about this. And yet a small group of people have been quite successful actually in reshaping vast swaths in the way society talks and is allowed to talk."
Dawkins, the former Professor for Public Understanding of Science at the University of Oxford, replied, "It’s bullying. And we’ve seen the way J.K. Rowling has been bullied -- and they’ve stood up to it. But it’s very upsetting the way this tiny minority of people have managed to capture the discourse and to really talk errant nonsense."
Morgan then interjected, “What’s the answer to it?”
Dawkins said, “Science. There are two sexes. You can talk about gender, if you wish. That’s a subjective—I’m not interested in that. As a biologist, there are two sexes and that’s all there is to it. … Sex really is binary.”
Dawkins earned his PhD and DSc from the University of Oxford. He is the author of numerous books, including The Selfish Gene, The Blind Watchmaker, and The Magic of Reality. He also is a member of the Royal Society of Literature.
During an interview on Good Morning Britain, Piers Morgan said of transgenderism, “I absolutely think that anyone who wants to go through a process of transitioning from male to female or female to male, it’s such an incredibly difficult thing to go through, I would completely support people who do that."
“What I have a real problem with is this whole opting out of gender, being gender-fluid, waking up one day and thinking you want to be whatever you feel like," he added. “Is that not damaging to society, if we allow everyone to self-identify how the hell they like?”
