Rep. Melanie Stansbury (D-NM) has been named the “February 2025 Porker of the Month” by Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW) for her “ridiculous tirade against saving taxpayer dollars” attacking the Elon Musk-led Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

“Porker of the Month is a dubious honor given to lawmakers and government officials who have shown a blatant disregard for the taxpayers,” CAGW explained Thursday in a press release announcing its choice of Rep. Stansbury as February’s “winner.”

After joining her fellow Democrats in a failed bid to subpoena Musk at a House Oversight Hearing on Government Efficiency on February 5, Rep. Stansbury went on a fearmongering rant against Musk and DOGE, accusing them of “literally breaking the law and Constitution.”

“The American people are terrified,” Stansbury said, claiming that hospitals, clinics, pre-schools and military personnel are “wondering” if they’ll be devastated by DOGE’s work to cut government expenditures.

“For vehemently objecting to commonsense reforms and cost-saving proposals, Rep. Stansbury was an easy choice for February Porker of the Month,” CAGW President Tom Schatz said in Thursday’s announcement:

“Rep. Stansbury’s ridiculous tirade against saving taxpayer dollars is shameful.

“Every member of Congress should support the efforts by DOGE to successfully alleviate waste, fraud, abuse, duplication, and mismanagement, including legislation that is needed to make the recommendations permanent.”

Stansbury also condemned DOGE’s effort to scrutinize Treasury Department records for wasteful spending and made uninformed accusations regarding spending cuts at the Department of Education, CAGW explained.

The congresswoman “protested the termination of $900 million in Department of Education grants and contracts but forgot to check how much is being wasted,” the release says, citing examples:

Instead of attacking DOGE, Rep. Stansbury should join its work to “save hundreds of billions of dollars for taxpayers in the face of $2 trillion deficits and a $36.5 trillion national debt,” Schatz said.
