(CNSNews.com) - The leak of top secret documents, allegedly at the hands of a 21-year-old Air National Guardsman, is "very troubling," Rep. Matt Rosendale (R-Mont.) told Fox News on Friday morning.
"Just like the Chinese spy balloon that was allowed to go over our country, we've got major problems with national security right now," he told "Mornings With Maria."
"I'm really concerned with what information is coming out there, not just the problem that it was leaked, but the American people are starting to hear information about additional troops on the ground, Special Forces troops on the ground in Ukraine.
"And I can tell you that Congress did not authorize any of that. And it continues to show the expansion of intervention that our country has in Ukraine, and a lot of people are going to have problems with that."
Host Maria Bartiromo noted that it is only because of the recently discovered document leak that we even know there are Special Forces troops on the ground in Ukraine. "I guess the U.S. did not want Russia to understand that we had U.S. Troops on the ground," she said.
Rosendale agreed: "Yeah, I'm going to be sending a letter out this week. I'll be asking my colleagues to join in. But I've got some questions about that.
"I don't know if (National Security Council spokesman John) Kirby's going to be able to give us that information or the DoD. But I want to know how long they've been there, how long they expect to be there, what exactly --practices are they undertaking right now while they are in Ukraine, so that we can see what is going on."
Bartiromo asked the congressman if there are U.S. troops in Taiwan as well?
"Again, this is a whole 'nother subject," Rosendale said.
"As we look at Ukraine, we also have all the threats with Taiwan and...what's going on at our southern border and who is coming across our southern border and why haven't we addressed that," Rosendale said.
At the end of the interview, Rosendale was asked again about U.S. troops in Ukraine: "Where is the outrage from Congress that the president of the United States is waging war without your authority?"
"We are going to demand this information so we can find out," Rosendale said. "There should not be troops on the ground without authorization from Congress."
