(CNSNews.com) -- While debating a Democrat amendment in the House Judiciary Committee on Feb. 28, Rep. Ken Buck (R-Colo.) explained how brutal late-term abortion is, stressing that during such procedures "you’re talking about ripping the arms off of an unborn baby, and then the legs, and then the head."
According to the pro-life Charlotte Lozier Institute, "late-term abortions refer to abortions at least in the 2nd trimester of pregnancy, when an unborn child can feel pain," generally after 20 weeks gestation, when the unborn baby is five months or older.
In his remarks, directed largely at pro-abortion Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-N.J.), Buck said, “Every state has legalized abortion. Some states, unbelievably -- and my state is one of them and I’m thoroughly embarrassed my state is one of them – has abortion up until the time of birth."
"Now let’s make sure we understand something," said Buck. "We use terms like ‘late-term abortion.’ And it’s so polite. You could go to a cocktail party and talk about ‘late-term abortion’ and not really offend anybody."
“You’re talking about ripping the arms off of an unborn baby, and then the legs, and then the head," said Buck. "A beating heart, a central nervous system that is fully functional. And all of you [Democrats] sit on that side and suggest that we are in favor of a ban on abortion."
“I’ll tell you something the American people aren’t in favor of," said the Colorado congressman. "They aren’t in favor of ripping the arms off of a baby, and the legs and the head, and pulling that baby out as if it was some group of cells."
"That baby is a living human being," he added. "It just happens to be inside of its mother at the time. That’s disgusting, that’s not what America stands for."
According to its platform, the Democratic Party supports abortion on demand up through the moment of birth. It also supports allowing infants that survive an abortion to be left to die on a medical table.
The CDC and the Guttmacher Institute estimate that late-term abortions comprise about 1.1 to 1.3% of all abortions. This means, for instance, that in 2017 when there were 862,320 abortions, a low estimate, there were approximatley 10,000 late-term abotions.
During a late-term abortion, the doctor uses dilators to open the cervix and then he "usually administers a maternal transabdominal injection of potassium chloride or digoxin into the heart or head of the unborn child, to ensure that he or she is dead upon delivery," according to the Charlotte Lozier Institute.
"For older and larger babies, dismemberment using forceps is used (grasping and pulling off limbs for removal)," reported the institute. "The brain is usually then removed by suction and the skull crushed for removal."
