(CNSNews.com) - President Joe Biden, who supports abortion on demand and same-sex marriage, will visit a Roman Catholic cathedral and a Roman Catholic shrine honoring the Virgin Mary on his visit to Ireland this week.
“On Friday, the President will travel to County Mayo, where he will tour the sanctuary of Our Lady of Knock,” John Kirby, communications director for the National Security Council, said in a White House briefing on Monday.
“He will then deliver remarks at St. Muredach’s Cathedral, which his great-great-grandfather—great-great-great-grandfather— sorry—Edward Blewitt sold 27,000 bricks to in 1827,” said Kirby. “Those bricks were used to construct and support the great cathedral and helped Edward afford to buy tickets for himself and for his family to sail together to America decades later in 1851.”
Mary, the virgin mother of Jesus Christ, reportedly made an apparition at Knock, Ireland, in August 1879.
The shrine’s website says the following:
“On the evening of the 21st of August 1879, a heavenly Apparition occurred at the gable wall of the Parish Church when Our Lady appeared, in the company of St. Joseph and St. John the Evangelist. Unique to the Knock Apparition was the presence of the Eucharistic Lamb in front of a Cross, standing upon an altar and surrounded by angels.
“The Apparition lasted for about two hours and 15 official witnesses gave their testimonies to a Commission of Enquiry in October of that year. …
“At the conclusion of the commission of investigation, they submitted a positive report to the Archbishop stating that the ‘testimony of all, taken as a whole, was trustworthy and satisfactory.’”
As president of the United States, Joe Biden has advocated abortion on demand and same-sex marriage, both of which violate the teachings of the Catholic Church.
“Human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception. From the first moment of his existence, a human being must be recognized as having the rights of a person - among which is the inviolable right of every innocent being to life,” says the Catholic Catechism.
“Since the first century the Church has affirmed the moral evil of every procured abortion. This teaching has not changed and remains unchangeable,” the Catechism states.
Similarly, the Catholic Catechism says that “homosexual acts” can never be approved.
“Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity, tradition has always declared that ‘homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered,’” says the Catechism. “They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved.”
Last August, President Biden released a statement condemning the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade and reiterated his position in favor of the legalized termination of unborn lives. Specifically, he called for Congress to enact legislation codifying Roe—and, thus, a “right” to abortion into federal law.
“The Supreme Court’s extreme decision to overturn Roe v. Wade put women’s health and lives at risk,” Biden said.
“Congress should listen to the will of the American people and restore the protections of Roe as federal law,” he said.
On Dec. 13, 2022, Biden signed the “Respect for Marriage Act,” which recognized same-sex marriages under federal law.
“Deciding whether to marry, who to marry is one of the most profound decisions a person can make,” Biden said that day.
“And now, the law requires that…same-sex marriage must be recognized as legal in every state in the nation,” he said.
