While speaking at a gun control conference on Tuesday, Pres. Joe Biden tried to mock a quote by Thomas Jefferson.
Biden addressed the anti-gun audience shortly after his son, Hunter, was found guilty of three federal gun charges.
“In less than a minute” Biden repeated several false claims that have be previously disproved, Communications Director for the State Freedom Caucus Network Greg Price notes in a social media video post:
“Joe Biden in less than a minute:
- Claims he was a professor at UPenn, which he never was
- Claims he taught a constitutional law class on the second amendment, which he never did
- Says that you couldn't own a cannon when 2A was implemented, which you could
- And ends by failing miserably to say the phrase "the tree of liberty is watered with the blood of patriots"
“The blood of liberty, the wash of those…give me a break!” Biden said in a fevered effort to mock those who support gun rights.
The actual quote was made by Thomas Jefferson on November 13, 1787 – and makes no reference to firearms – according to the U.S. Library of Congress explains:
“The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants.” – Thomas Jefferson Nov. 13, 1787
