“Here’s how we fix the border,” Nikki Haley, a candidate to be Republicans’ 2024 presidential nominee, wrote Tuesday, outlining six specific steps she’d take as Commander-in-Chief.
Haley used a Twitter post to lay out her six-point plan:
1. 25,000 more BP agents 2. Mandatory E-Verify 3. Defund sanctuary cities 4. No tax dollars to illegal immigrants 5. Remain in Mexico6. End catch & release, start catch & deportIn her tweet, the former U.S. ambassador included video of her Monday interview from Del Rio, Texas on "The Faulkner Focus.”
“We should be talking about the fact that every state is now a border state,” Haley told Host Harris Faulkner, adding that the immigration crisis is a national security issue, not a campaign issue. "The people of Texas and every state in the country don't deserve what's happening right now," Haley said.
As Fox News has reported, illegal immigration is on pace to increase yet again this year:
“There were over 1.7 million encounters at the southern border in FY 2021, and more than 2.3 million in FY 2022. FY 2023 has been on pace to eclipse those numbers, although numbers have dipped in January and February.”
What’s more, ignoring the nation’s immigration laws can undermine the country’s very foundation, Haley warned:
"We are a country of laws. The second you stop being a country of laws, you give up everything this country was founded on."
Haley said that, as president, she would replace “catch-and-release” with “catch-and-deport.”
