Gov. Ron DeSantis’ (R-Fla.) Press Sec. Bryan Griffin wielded Twitter Monday to get the L.A. Angeles Times to quickly acknowledge that it had falsely claim he did not respond to a request for comment regarding a story trashing the Republican Florida governor.
At 9:35 p.m., Griffin tweeted a question to @latimes and the Christi Carras (@christicarras), the Times author of “John Oliver condemns ‘Meatball Ron’ DeSantis as ‘a petty autocrat and a bully.’” Griffin quoted the article’s false claim:
“‘DeSantis’ office did not immediately respond Monday to the Los Angeles Times’ request for comment."
“Yes, I did. Within an hour. Why wasn't my comment included in the article? @latimes @christicarras”
By 10:50 p.m., Carras’ story had been corrected and Griffin tweeted out his thanks to Twitter:
“Update: story updated. Thanks Twitter.”
Prior to billionaire Elon Musk’s purchase of Twitter, and as his subsequent release of the Twitter Files document, the giant social media platform had actively censored conservative views and news, such as that of the scandalous laptop of President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter.
Carras’ (“a&e @latimes | she/her”) story recounts Host John Oliver’s slurs of DeSantis on Sunday’s episode of HBO’s “This Week Tonight,” in which Oliver attacked DeSantis for his pro-life, pro-parental rights, pro-law enforcement actions:
“During Sunday’s episode of ‘Last Week Tonight,’ the TV host ripped apart DeSantis’ conservative political views and actions — such as denying minors gender-affirming care, signing a ‘15-week abortion ban into law,’ banning books in schools and criminalizing ‘those deemed rioters at demonstrations” — while denouncing him as ‘a petty autocrat and a bully ... with no interest in hearing dissent.’”
Gov. DeSantis’ policies include opposition to both the teaching of gender ideology in schools and providing life-altering gender transition surgery and treatments to children.
Griffin’s comment to @latimes and @cristicarrass consisted of four words: “John Oliver is irrelevant”:
“Hi Christi, Here’s a response you can attribute to as Press Secretary: John Oliver is irrelevant.”
