On Sunday, President Joe Biden announced that he is dropping out of the 2024 race for reelection, following intense pressure from fellow Democrats for him to do so, due to his rapidly declining mental capabilities.
In a social media post on his personal X.com account, Biden first claimed credit for improving the country. In the second paragraph, he thanked his supporters.
Then – in the third paragraph – Biden announced that he was ending his candidacy because he believes it is “in the best of my party and the country to stand down.”
Biden also said he will now “focus solely on fulfilling my duties as the president for the remainder of my term – and made no reference to the glaring obvious cognitive decline evident in his public appearances and comments that forced him to drop his bid for reelection.

“I will speak to the Nation later this week in more detail about my decision,” Biden promised.
Biden repeated his decision to drop out in order to “focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term,” in a follow-up post endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris to be the Democrats’ presidential nominee.
Biden said that choosing Harris to be his vice president has been “the best decision I’ve made”:
“My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term. My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this.”
