NextImg:A Year Later, Still No Accountability for Babies Potentially Born Alive Killed and Women’s Safety Endangered

On March 29, in the House Oversight Committee Hearing on D.C. Crime, Rep. Anna Paulina Luna showed pictures of "the Five", that is, the mangled bodies of five babies who were potential victims of illegal late term abortions that were discovered in D.C. and were linked to the Washington Surge Clinic.

Rep. Luna demanded the revocation of Cesare Santangelo’s medical license (the abortionist apparently responsible for this). It seems that he has admitted on video that he would allow babies to die if they survived a failed abortion. He is also the subject of a lawsuit claiming that because of his barbaric practices, one of his patients died, having ended up with fetal debris in her lungs.

Emily Erin Osmet, VP of Communications at SBA Pro-Life America observed:

“Today marks one year and still no justice has been served for the “D.C. Five” – five late-term babies (potentially born alive) were aborted, placed in a bag and headed to an incinerator when a whistleblower intervened and their bodies were turned over to D.C. police. Today, in a congressional hearing, Rep. Anna Paulina Luna grilled D.C. authorities on where the investigation stands – but sadly, no answer was given. We applaud Rep. Luna for her courage in calling out the heinous acts committed in our nation’s capital and the city’s apparent unwillingness to even conduct autopsies on the remains of the D.C. Five.

One year later we have no answers, no convictions and no accountability, not even autopsies. D.C. police – directed by D.C. politicians – have shown more interest in arresting pro-life advocates for writing on the sidewalk with chalk than in holding abortionists accountable for horrific born-alive abortions. We call for justice, transparency and accountability for our nation’s most vulnerable children.”

This is unimaginable.

And yet, there is deafening silence around this matter as if to say that the days when crimes were investigated are long gone, as if to say that a crime is only what "the party" dictates now.

What a dark reminder of the communist past of my country of origin, Romania, when justice was only for the few select elites, while the rest of the people were treated like cattle ready for the slaughter at a socialist leader’s (or doctor's) notice. The cold blood with which such murders were committed also reminds of a Nazi Germany all too ready to experiment with, torture, starve, or kill the bodies of those deemed inferior, or "subhuman" by "the party".

The details of this horrid event need to be probed. They cannot be overlooked. It is the least one can expect in a society that claims to uphold the rule of law.

There is still hope for some good in the country though, as some actions are being taken to protect the vulnerable.

A few days ago, West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice signed HB 2002 into law. This is a bill that is meant to support mothers during pregnancy as well as after a child is born.

According to the press release: “Gov. Justice’s signature comes two days after a West Virginia abortion facility announced it will open up for business five miles from the West Virginia border in Cumberland, Maryland. Under its new name, 'The Women’s Health Center of Maryland' will perform abortions well into the second trimester on babies with beating hearts who can feel pain.”

Caitlin Connors, southern regional director for Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America noted:

“West Virginia’s pregnancy centers empower women and impact lives for the better every day. These organizations provide free pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, medical exams, counseling, parent classes, financial classes, and resources such as food, diapers, clothing, and financial assistance for housing and utilities. The pregnancy help centers are engaging in a labor of love. West Virginia’s former abortion facility has chosen a very different path – setting up shop just across the border in Maryland to make a profit at the expense of human lives. This is possible because of Maryland’s extreme anti-child, anti-woman laws that allow abortion on demand at any point in pregnancy for virtually any reason.

Thanks to bill sponsor Del. Dean Jeffries’ and Gov. Justice’s leadership, West Virginia continues its legacy of being a state that values women and the unborn.”

HB 2002 ensures that organizations in the abortion industry as well as their advocates will not be awarded funding. Also, as the press release records: “HB 2002 also increases West Virginia’s adoption tax credit from $4,000 to $5,000 and states that adopted children are eligible for early interventions services, including Birth to Three and Right From The Start.

The West Virginia law is the latest example of the post-Dobbs trend in which pro-life states are advancing measures to support moms. State legislatures across the country are currently considering bills to allocate dollars for pregnancy help centers, eliminate sales tax on baby items, create childcare tax credits, extend postpartum Medicaid coverage, and support pregnant women and new mothers in a variety of other ways."

It is difficult to understand how anyone can look at the effects of barbaric late term abortion practices and still believe good can come from them. Only a misunderstanding of the facts would have people support this. And only true malevolence would allow for anyone to desire the harming of both children and mothers especially when there are so many alternatives out there. Why inflict pain, why kill? Why not look at all the other options available which don’t involve violence or trauma?
